Second Life is a free to play online life simulation game that will appeal to fans of the virtual world genre. The game is developed by Linden Lab and has been online since 2003 for both PC and Mac. With endless possibilities and the ability to make real money while playing Second Life continues to grow in a saturated market.
The game is intended for an older audience (late teenagers and above) with a large portion of users falling into older demographic categories. In Second Life players will interact with other users (known as Residents) while they explore a vast game world, participate in a huge number of activities and create virtual items.
These virtual items are one of the more unique features of Second Life and allow players to earn real life money as they create and trade their virtual products with other users. From real estate to items and even services there is a market for everything in Second Life. Residents of Second Life can create these virtual objects with the 3D model tool that is provided and use Linden’s scripting language to add functionality to these objectives. Second Life is unique in that users retain all the rights to their content which means they can use Second Life to distribute and sell their content creations.
For users that simply won’t to play Second Life for the social elements you’ll find no shortage of people, clubs and activities to help break the ice as you meet other Residents.
The economy of Second Life revolves around the Linden dollar (L$) which is used for all transactions in the Second Life universe. This L$ can then be converted into US dollars (or other currencies) at a varying exchange rate. This has enabled many users to make small amounts of money in the Second Life universe or pay for a premium membership without spending money out of their pocket. There are even a small but growing number of online users making sizable amounts of money from their Second Life activities.
Whichever path you choose to take in Second Life you’ll find the amount of content and the size of the community to be unmatched.
